Strawberry Reservoir Day Trip
October 10, 2021
This was a crazy fun day trip out to Strawberry Reservoir to fish for the big cutties that come out to feed around the weed beds this time of year. Fourteen Bonneville Fly Fishers made the drive to fish from the bank and from pontoon and kick boats with dry flies. Although the forecast projected a beautiful day, Mother Nature served up a windy, cold, and overcast morning; the afternoon improved when the sun came out, but the wind was relentless. Several of us got some nice cutties.
I still like to say that with the slot limit for keeping cutthroats at Strawberry, NONE of our fishes were SMALL enough or BIG enough to keep. Now THAT’s a fun day!
Many thanks to my cohort Pat for the several scouting trips she made to help prepare for this trip and for the inside scoop on what locations around the reservoir had the right conditions for the big cutties.
