Conservation of the Middle Provo River and Its Fishery BFF member Dave Whiteman will be the speaker at the March 19 meeting. He will present the results of an ongoing Middle Provo River conservation project that has been ongoing for the past 3 years. This collaborative project between the High Country Fly Fishing club and students at Wasatch High School in Heber City, monitors water temperatures and macro-invertebrates in the Middle Provo River and provides important baseline information on factors that affect the present and future health of the river and its fishery. While the productive and popular Blue-Ribbon fishery is presently healthy, the lower part of the river is experiencing some water quality issues. Possible future concerns include the rapid urbanization of the Heber Valley, the effects of global warming on precipitation and water temperatures, potential invasive species, and over-utilization of the fishery. Dave Whiteman is an avid fly fisherman and fly tier. He retired from the University of Utah 5 years ago and his retirement activities include frequent fishing trips to Western U.S. waters. Directions to the Point After The meeting starts at 7pm upstairs inside the Point After. Come at 6pm for a meet-n-greet. Food and beverages are available for purchase.
