Otter Creek Reservoir and local streams April 26-28
Seven BFF members attended this trip lead by Sean Dillon. The trip ended after a cold front and snow moved in on Monday.
Saturday was slow, but we didn’t start until almost 11am. Saturday evening caught a few.
Sunday – went to Fish Lake (DNR guy told us it was icing off). Caught some fish (leaches and midges). It was cold and very windy (both at Otter Creek and Fish Lake that day).
Lynn, Doug, and Tom moved on from stillwater fishing, as it was hit or miss up to that point, and explored fishing the East Fork of the Sevier River and Antimony Creek. They caught a mix of rainbow and brown trout from both locations, mostly browns from the Sevier.
Monday was our best day. Brian and I got into a morning Chironomid (ice cream cone) bite that lasted from 8-10 am – near shore caught a fish every few minutes.
Then the fish moved up and eventually were taking emergers as the hatch came on – and it was pretty epic – birds, fish all feeding on the surface, but less likely to take a fly.
Around 2pm most of the midges had either been eaten or were off the surface but the fish were still looking up for food, and I was able to get several to take a dry.
5pm rolled around, and brought with it a cold front from the north – 3’ waves and the fishing died down.
Fish lake is icing off now, and fishing there likely to get really good soon.
Also several of us (Luke, Aidan, Brian and myself) explored Lower Box Creek Reservoir – not much shore access, but could be a lot of fun from a float tube – bows and tigers. They took balanced leaches and chironomids.
