    Dan Potts will join us to share all things carp. Dan will be leading the June Carp Fishout trip.

    Rich's catch a few years back. A long fight with a 6wt.

    These underrated, twitchy monsters are not an easy catch. But once on the line, it's a locomotive headed out. Ya, 7wt or heavier rods are highly advised.

    A local carp guru, and past presenter at our club, has a great YouTube channel 'Carp On The Fly'.

    Steinaker Lake is one of the treasures of the Vernal area. About 3 hrs. (with traffic) away from Salt Lake. Spring is a great time to wet a line at this lake.

    This is a multi-day outing starting on a Thurs thru Sunday. You can attend any or all of the days.

    As of April, the lake was at 85% full. Water temps should be up in late June helping the fish get off the bottom.

    Information about the lake and campground is HERE. This is a popular campground and recreation area, so make your reservations ASAP.

    There's RV parks in Vernal as well as Airbnb's, and cheap hotels.

    If you haven't done carp on a fly, you need to.  Smart, spooky, freight trains that put a real bend in the rod (TIP: 7wt rods min.).

    There's several great videos on YouTube showing how to build the flies needed to attract these beasts. And the effective leader and tipit arrangement is a bit different than most stream or lake fishing.

    We will be basing the trip out of Fred's ranch in Boulder, Utah. 

    In the past, folks with RVs have parked in the pasture...which is available this year. Those wishing to park their camper at Fred's need to let him know in advance to make sure they can be accommodated. Also new-this year, there has been a new RV park open about 1/4 mile from Fred’s house, for those that want to have hook-ups and shower house. Fred just will need to know if you want that option so he can book some spots. Fred has opened his house for several to sleep in the various rooms. If you're planning on going to this fishout, register here and you will be getting emails with details from Fred as the date draws closer.

    Fishing will be at several ponds and lakes, plus river fishing if the flows allow.

    Overview: This is a busy area in the summer especially on a weekend so I recommend we meet at 9:00 am at a place to be determined. Those who want to stay on Washington Lake can use their float tubes, kayaks or pontoon boats. It is a little bit of a walk to the Lake from the parking lot. I have fished from the shore with good success.

    Those who want to take a hike to other lakes near by, it is not a bad hike. We will hike and fish along the shore of Washington Lake a bit and then move to the next lake

    Mosquitos may be a problem so bring some good insect repellent and also rain gear. Unitas are famous for afternoon rain storms.

    Note:  another option will be a trip with a bit more hiking in the Uintas with Dan Potts.

    Fishing our high lakes is always a treat. Whether you bank-cast, float  tube, or wade the river, it's all good.
