  • 28 May 2025
  • 30 May 2025
  • Two hours south of Wells, Nevada

Registration is closed

Leader is Kim Schroeder

Participant limit is approximately 9 attendees.

We will be fishing the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge (Ruby Marshes).   Ruby Lake is a natural, spring fed, high elevation marsh. We will also be fishing the man-made Collection Ditch which resembles a steep-banked spring creek.  There are also small, fishable spring-fed ponds that feed into the Marsh.  This is the location where both the State record rainbow and tiger trout were caught (2011).

Target Species: Rainbow, tiger, largemouth bass and brown and brook trout.

Drive time:  4 hrs.

Level of fishing difficulty: Moderate to difficult for larger resident rainbows.

Access: Paved until good dirt road through open range the last 20 or so miles.  Dirt parking lots, one which includes handicap access to fishing and a pit toilet.

Accommodations: There is a Forest Service campground with water and pit toilets adjacent to Ruby Lake.  These camp spots are lined with pinon juniper and cedar trees. A small private campground a few miles north of the Marsh has RV hook-ups. Wells, Nevada is 1.5 hours (77 miles) north and has a few motels and restaurants.

I have reserved site #005 for myself.  There are reservable and first-come  sites near adjacent and near the site I have reserved.  The campground has water but not hook-ups or dump station.

Harmon's Ruby Lake Resort = full hook-ups and very limited store and bar.  Call Teri at 775 779-2242 for information\reservations.  This campground is 10 miles north of the main marsh fishing areas, at the intersection of Wright Road and Ruby Valley road, pin coordinates are 40.3203620, -115.4489436.

Weather:  Elevation is 6000'. Cool nights warming considerably during the day.  Daytime temperatures are expected to be in the upper 70's.

Terrian: Brush and reed-lined banks, some open areas, especially around the spring ponds.

Wading difficulty:  Generally easy fishing from banks without need of waders but in some locations, fishing may be enhanced with use of hip or chest waders.  Float tubes are permitted year-round but no boats are permitted January 1- June 14.  Assuming "boats" means oars or motors.
