Unita Trip July 31, 2025
On Thursday July 31, 2025 the Bonneville Fly Fishers Club met at the parking lot at Lost Lake along the Mirror Lake Highway at 9:00 am. Traffic wasn’t bad and as far as I know everybody got there and it was easy to find. Travel time took between 1 ½ and 2 hours depending on where people were coming from. The weather was good and the turnout was great. Had about 22 people. The fishing was good, not great but everybody caught fish and most people caught several fish during the day. Mostly tiger trout but a few rainbows sprinkled in. Not sure anybody caught any brooks or graylings. I think most people were able to dry fly fish, which is my favorite using an assortment of black ants, black beetle, renegade, and caddis flies. Half of the group met at Dave Whiteman's vehicle for lunch and enjoyed his wife sharing some treats with us. In the afternoon some of the members stayed at Lost Lake but other members went over to Lily Lake and Teapot Lake, which is just across the street. Some of us went to the dam at Lost Lake and fished from dam and had great success. Because of a slight wind most people fished from the shore which really wasn’t bad. Some used float devices and did well. Even though we went on Thursday the turnout was good and there wasn’t a lot of other people up there. The weekend can be crazy up in the Unitas during the weekend so next year will plan on another week day trip. There are other lakes off the beaten path but recommend we stay with the lakes along the Mirror Lake Highway. If any other thoughts, observations or recommendation let me know. Always room for improvement.
