Boulder Mountains

Host is Fred Jepsen

This is a camping trip where we will be fishing ponds and lakes near the Jepsen Ranch.  Some locations can be fished from the bank, some best by kick boat.

Target Species: Rainbow, browns, cutts and tiger trout.

Drive time: 4 hrs., 247 miles.

Level of fishing difficulty: Easy to moderate.  Some ponds are easier than others. Four or 5 wt rods with floating and sinking lines work well.  Perhaps a six weight rod with sink tip in the larger lakes.  We fish Posey lake, where damsel flies are prevalent.  Both drys, wet flies and leaches work well in nearby reservoirs.

Access: Mostly dirt roads, some locations, if chosen, could require higher clearance vehicles.  A 4x4 required to some areas but not all. We often pool into 4x4 vehicles for those that do not have high clearance vehicles.  Some locations may have steep grades and steep drop-offs.

Accommodations: Camper parking spots are available on Fred's pasture and limited beds in Fred's house.  If you are a tent camper, there are two bathrooms available in the house also. The pasture has power and water available. There is a new campground nearby with hook-ups(?).  Motels are available in either Wayne County or Escalante.

Weather:  >8,000'. Cool nights and warm days.

Terrian: Lakes and ponds, some with shore access not requiring wading, others may be brush or weed lined and best accessed by kick boat.

Wading difficulty: Easy in some areas and do not require waders, moderate in others.
