Welcome to

Bonneville Fly Fishers

Island Park Sep. 27-30

Five BFF members made the trip to Island Park this fall beginning September 27th to October 1st.  Kim, Thom, Jim, Steve and Stan (host) made the trip. Our first night there we had dinner at Cafe Sabor located on the Henry’s Fork River and we were treated not only with good food, but a bull moose across the river.

We fished the Henry’s Fork River, Henry’s Lake and we all camped out at Henry’s Lake State Park. The weather was incredible with temps ranging in the low 70’s during the day to the 50’s at night. We had hoped to float the Henry’s Fork River from Island Park dam to Last Chance, but the low flows were not conducive for this activity. We all caught some beautiful fish, rainbows, cut bows, and two brown trout caught by Steve Fisher who ventured over to the Madison River in Montana one afternoon.  Some members went up to Big Springs, a National Natural Landmark, where approx. 120 million gallons of crystal clear water flows out of the ground every single day. It serves as the primary head water for the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River. Huge fish hang out under the bridge waiting to be fed by visitors who come to see this amazing place. Of course, you cannot fish or wade here!  Moose were also spotted here.  I had the opportunity to go up on the mountain and see amazing mountain goats on the summit.  We also witnessed a water rescue on Henry's Lake for a fisherman who overturned his kayak, and fortunately all went well. We all enjoyed the trip and appreciated the beauties of nature in this area.
