Provo River Day Trip- 2024

Ron Barnett: Trip Leader

As beautiful as the weather was on November 9th, it would have been difficult for the day to not be a success. Ten club members and a guest fished the river near the River Road South access.  The competition was so light we were able to occupy the Midge Hole. Others spread out to fishable water all the way to the downstream end of the Big Island. Water flow could not have been more ideal.

Despite the blue bird weather BWOs hatched from late morning to mid-afternoon. Most participants caught a fish or two, a few caught even more. Most of the fish landed were on the small side of the Provo River size scale, in the 8 to 14 inch range. Holly and Robert sported Tenkara rods which seemed well suited for the location. The frequent target opportunities for all, however, made for a convivial day.

The Provo River is heavily fished for a reason.  It is a quality fly fishery near a major metropolitan area.  Several members learned new fishing spots and made connections that can lead to future trips. Overall, a successful day.
